The Raphet 2008 Chambertin Clos de Beze smells alluringly of ripe dark cherry, licorice, ginger, blond tobacco, and hyacinth. Supple and tender, loaded with lightly-cooked cherry yet preserving a vintage-typical fruit skin edge and counterpoint of cherry pit piquancy, this exhibits a pure, penetrating persistence free of superficial sweetness that signals one's being in the presence of ancient vines in a great site. This rendition hasn't the depth of the very best wines that have come from this small parcel over the years, but it will remain memorably delicious for at least a dozen years. - David Schildknecht

(BH90-92 points) An elegant, pure and layered nose speaks of anise, sandalwood, damp earth and very fresh red pinot fruit that slides gracefully into textured, intense and delicious middle weight flavors and while this is not as complex or persistent as the old vines Vougeot, it's finer.

Quite possibly the perfect winter and fall wine- pale garnet with bright, spicy aromas of Christmas pudding, plum, cranberry compote, and game meat. On the palate it is elegant and bright but every bit as assertive... Quite possibly the perfect winter and fall wine- pale garnet with bright, spicy aromas of Christmas pudding, plum, cranberry compote, and game meat. On the palate it is elegant and bright but every bit as assertive. Flavors of spiced cherry, roasted chestnut, dried orange peel, and woodsmoke dominate and are supported by a tight backbone and racy structure. Drinking beautifully right now and through 2025.
