Deep aromas of black raspberry, animal fur and game; this smells powerful! Then sweet, silky and very ripe, with terrific grip and verve-not to mention peppery lift-to the black raspberry and spice flavors. This very complex but youthfully reticent wine build inexorably on the back end, ultimately showing explosive fruit on the finish. Perrot-Minot picked until October 7, noting that the top sites in Gevrey-Chambertin came in at the end.

Cedar, resin, licorice, cardamom, blackberry, and plum paste in the nose of Perrot-Minot’s 2008 Mazoyeres-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes migrate onto a palpably extract- and tannin-rich (albeit fine-grained) palate, accompanied by deep richness of beef stock. The juicy, tart yet ripe fresh fruit edge keeps this from becoming austere, as medicinal herbal extractions, iodine, peat, and crushed stone saturate the palate and leave your mouth a quiver but practically exhausted. This take-no-prisoners expression of its site should be at least a 15-20 year keeper. - David Schildknecht

(BH92-94 points) A discreet application of wood allows the less elegant but more complex nose ripe dark berry and black raspberry fruit aromas that also possess plenty of Gevrey character merge into rich, full and very generous sweet and textured medium full-bodied flavors that deliver plenty of punch and outstanding length. While presently very approachable, there is a firmer core of buried tannins supporting the tautly muscular mid-palate that will probably cause this to close up once in bottle.

Rich aromas of black cherry and wood smoke lead off in this intense red, as flavors of cherry, spice and tobacco keep coursing through to the lingering finish. A bit knees and elbows now, but has all the elements in good proportions. Best from 2015 through 2028. 30 cases imported. –BS

Dark deep garnet color with brilliant intensity. Vibrant and persistent a lovely perfume of brambly black cherry and plum with rose petals and cherry blossoms leads to a complex allotment of savory elements like tree bark sassafras wet clay and saddle framed in the perfect amount of new French oak. The palate carries forward the full intensity of the aromatics of this Grand Cru red burgundy with freshness and precision focusing the copious amounts of black fruit. While young now in 3-5 years of brief cellaring this wine will shine and drink well for an extended development over the next decade or longer. Coming back to this wine 24 hours later I reassessed this wine an my observations are exciting. On about every point in my initial note the wine evolved beautifully into a more complete and seamless offering with a true sense of place.
