From a great terroir just east of Pavie, the 2008 Château Fonplegade is a blend of 91% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon. This deep ruby/plum-colored effort offers lots of blackcurrants, graphite, dried earth, and mineral notes in a rich, medium to full-bodied, rounded, beautifully textured package. It offers more pleasure than most in the vintage.

A major sleeper of the vintage the 2008 offers fabulous aromas and flavors of black currants black cherries loamy soil graphite and earth. Dense and supple textured with abundant fat and concentration in its medium to full-bodied complex evolved personality it should drink well for 15+ years.

Truffles pop up first before you move to the smoky, red fruits and spice scents. On the palate the wine is medium/full bodied, and moves from sweet, bright, red fruits to darker red berries and back to the tart side of the style range. There is a softness to the fruits, along with an oaky sensation in the mouth and finish.
