With nearly a decade of age, this still shows a dark red appearance with almost no rim variation. The bouquet reveals a beautiful combination of cassis and plum accented by notes of graphite and crushed rocks. The palate is remarkably lush and is capped by soft tannins, though this is nicely offset by excellent freshness and backbone of minerality. This retains a dense fruit profile with an extremely generous finish. Always a wonderful value in Bordeaux, the 2008 La Vieille Cure is drinking supremely well right now, yet cellar with confidence for the next 5-7 years.

Label

Chateau la Vieille Cure holds 74% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. This mix, coupled with the sunny vineyard facing, makes the wines accessible at a young age. While some vintages benefit from waiting 10 or more years, most are best appreciated between 4 and 6 years.

Winery

La Vieille Cure

Chateau La Vieille Cure is in Fronsac, an AOC on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Wine growing at the chateau dates back to the 17th century. The vines are situated on plateaus and slopes that soak up the sun for generous ripening, with soils predominantly limestone with some chalk and clay.

The property was purchased in 1986 by two American friends and Bordeaux lovers. They replanted part of the vineyard—without touching the very old (over 75 years) vines—and constructed a new winery, equipped with the latest equipment.
