This sexy beautiful wine has the same potency (14% alcohol) as the 2010 which is surprising given the difference in alcohol strengths in these two vintages. Soft round and opulent this sexy 2008 reveals lots of white chocolate espresso roast Christmas fruitcake black currant and cherry characteristics in its flamboyant bouquet. Round medium to full-bodied and lush it can be enjoyed now and over the next decade. This is a sleeper of the vintage.

A dark toasty style with lush espresso melted fig and currant paste notes that glide over ample but velvety tannins. Polished and modern with nice depth on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2018.-J.M.

Vibrant purple core and purple rim with full intensity. Focused perfume of blackberry blossom and blackberry pie and mocha with fresh pavement minerality that is persistent. The palate is impressive with a bramble of spicy blackberry and black raspberry liquor with a creamy rich lush broad and expansive mid-palate. It is like a chocolate cake with a molten chocolate center! The palate is just impressive in intensity and persistence with ripe plus concentration of fruit and well polished tannins. This will benefit from aging but you will want to drink it now and enjoy the forward densely packed fruit now!

Winery

Monbousquet

Chateau Monbousquet is a Saint-Emilion wine estate dating back to 1540. The estate prospered and achieved great fame during the second half of the 19th century under the brief but inspired direction of Comte de Vassal-Montviel. He enlarged the vineyard, bringing it to its present size and making it one of the largest estates in Saint-Emilion.

The arrival of Chantal and Gerard Perse in 1993 started a new chapter in the chateau’s story, ushering in a veritable “leap in quality”. Production standards were completely revised both in the vineyards and in the cellars, with state-of-the-art installations suitable for producing a great wine. Gerard Perse also planted the first white vines in Saint-Emilion. His efforts paid off and in 2006 Monbousquet was promoted to the rank of a Grand Cru Classe.

The estate includes 32 hectares of vines planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon on warm, deep gravel soils to the south and sandy-clay soils to the north. The average age of the vines is 38 years. Three wines are produced on the estate: two red wines, the main wine Monbousquet and the second wine Angelique de Monbousquet, and a white wine, Monbousquet Blanc, from the small parcel of white wine grapes.
