The reserved nose opens fairly quickly to reveal a softly fruited center surrounded by spice notes. Aromas of pepperspice peel away to show fragrant notes of grilled Italian sausage atop sour cherries with the barest whiff of vanilla. The aromatic experience immediately brings Piemonte to mind, especially the more elegantly styled crus of Barbaresco. The palate continues to reference Italy as the subtly flavored attack builds towards a pure, lightly fruited midpalate supported by classic nebbiolo tannins that are finely textured. Appropriate acidity helps reference the varietal one more time creating a fresh and lively framework to the medium bodied palate. Be sure to decant if drinking soon knowing this will provide great drinking in 4-6 years.
