Wow. This is really powerful with aromas of blueberries and blackberries and hints of spices. Then there is an earthy meaty undertone. Full body with velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Focused and solid. Very structured. Best in 2015.

The 2008 Orma is striking in this vintage. An exciting array of dark fruit chocolate spices and leather emerges from this dense vibrant wine. A powerful underlying vein of minerality frames the wine all the way through to the fresh vibrant finish. Freshly cut roses licorice and spices reappear on the striking finish. Orma is 40% Cabernet Franc 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 14 months in French oak barrels 60% new. Orma is one of the most improved wines in Tuscany. The 2008 is simply terrific. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. Proprietor Antonio Moretti is on a roll with both of his Tuscan properties these days.

This dense, extremely pleasurable red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc has tight, linear tannins that need two or three more years of cellar aging. The well-integrated flavors recall black cherry, chocolate and tobacco.

Blackberry and plum fruit is augmented by cedar and sandalwood in this thickly textured, tannic red, which is Bordeaux-like, with an Italian bent, finishing with tobacco, black tea and spice accents. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2014 through 2024. –BS
