Complex nose melds red berries, woodsmoke and exotic spices, with notes of coffee and earth emerging with air. Supple, spicy and nicely concentrated; approaching its peak but the wine's verve and structure suggest that it should give pleasure for several more years. The flavors of strawberry, mocha and forest floor are perked up by lively acidity. Finishes with firm but fine-grained tannins and very good subtle length. This doesn't have quite the fleshiness for 90 points, but I bumped up my score in appreciation of the wine's subtle complexity and sheer drinkability. By the way, this 2008 is the winery's current pinot release in the U.S. market.
