If you think of Mendoza’s Malbec-based wines as rich and ripe but a bit chunky and best for early drinking, try the supremely elegant 2008 vintage of Poesia, a 60/40 blend of Malbec and Cabernet Franc from ungrafted vines... If you think of Mendoza’s Malbec-based wines as rich and ripe but a bit chunky and best for early drinking, try the supremely elegant 2008 vintage of Poesia, a 60/40 blend of Malbec and Cabernet Franc from ungrafted vines planted in 1935. The wine is as fresh today as it was when I tasted it on release several years ago and still has a decade of positive development ahead of it.

I like the chalk and stone character of this with black fruits. Medium body and firm tannins. Drink now.

The 2008 Poesia is not as complex or as intense on the nose as the 2007, with tightly wound and rather broody blackberry, mint, wild strawberry and cassis. The palate is rounded on the entry, with savory-tinged black fruit and good acidity, but I feel that it is missing some tension towards the powerful, burly finish (especially when compared to the previous two vintages.) Drink now-2017. - Neal Martin

Dark purple core with an electric purple rim. Intense aromas of ripe blackberries, hot cracked stone, and dark loamy earth take hold and don’t let up. A tinge of raisonated grapes lingers in the background as well. ... Dark purple core with an electric purple rim. Intense aromas of ripe blackberries, hot cracked stone, and dark loamy earth take hold and don’t let up. A tinge of raisonated grapes lingers in the background as well. The Entry on the palate is also bold with big berry flavors followed by wood spice and silky yet assertive tannin structure. There is a nice grip and length to this wine, and a core of earthy spiciness signal a transition to a secondary flavor profile development. This is drinking well now and should continue to do so for the next 3-5 years.
