Now well-established as a Douro classic this latest vintage of Chryseia shows the same concentration and dense tannins while bringing an extra element of elegance and balance. This gives the wine obvious aging potential over at least 6-7 years. R.V.

The 2008 Chryseia is an equal blend of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. It comes in at 14% alcohol. This hasn't been seen in around eight years. Let's check in. This won't go down in the annals as a monumental Chryseia, but it is certainly a very pleasing one. Fresh and understated, this shows fine finesse. The fruit is on the restrained side—typical of what we see in most 2008s—but it is a perfect food wine that now seems to be in a perfect place. It shows no decay, nor much complexity, but it seems to be in perfect harmony. Lingering on the finish, it has some old-school elegance. It has plenty of life left, but I doubt it will get better. This is certainly a good time to dive in. We'll continue to take the drinking window in stages, although it might well do better, depending on how you like them. The price of this library wine merely reflects the price of current releases. - Mark Squires
