Nick Mills has tuned his vines to the cool elevations of Wanaka working through natural viticulture and winemaking to produce this explosively schisty pinot noir a Central Otago classic. The wine's earthy power is checked by layers of red fruit and scents of rhubarb and rose sustaining a remarkable balance of sweet fruit and racy acidity. The flavors last encouraged by long exposure to air promising years of development ahead.--Joshua Greene

Dense silken-textured wine with gobs of sweet fruit and subtle spice flavours. Quite pure and reasonably long but not showing great complexity. Highly drinkable. Central Otago.

This is about as close to Burgundy as New Zealand can get. Delicate yet fragrant aromas of crushed berry sandalwood sweet earth and new leather weave in and out of the glass while teasing with more concentrated dark fruit... This is about as close to Burgundy as New Zealand can get. Delicate yet fragrant aromas of crushed berry sandalwood sweet earth and new leather weave in and out of the glass while teasing with more concentrated dark fruit underneath. The wine's exquisite balance between elegance and intensity also appears on the palate where the flavors are pure and intense with appropriate acids leaving a light and fresh presence on the finish. Cellaring will allow the packed-in flavors to unfurl and this focused and pristine wine from Rippon will continue to be a revelation.
