The nose is bursting with aromas of powdered chocolate blueberries and crème cassis complemented by dark black cherry. I like the weight on the palate as well as the silky texture. Showing excellent concentration and beautifully soft tannins from front to back the wine continues to build in strength and complexity towards the fruit-laden finish. Yet it offers serious grip for how supple and silky the tannins remain. Easy to drink now it will get even more impressive with a couple years in the cellar. This is an A+ effort.

Round Pond

Round Pond Estate, owned and operated today by the second generation of the MacDonnell family, is a modern farm and winery located at the Rutherford crossroads between Beaulieu Vineyard and Caymus, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The winery produces pure, expressive wines in their state-of-the-art winemaking facility from 362 acres of Rutherford vineyards which are primarily planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The estate also includes 5 acres of gardens, 12 acres of olive orchards, and one of only two olive mills in the region.

The high quality Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, artisan olive oils, red wine vinegars, and flavorful citrus syrups of Round Pond Estate reflect the MacDonnell family’s dedication to sustainable farming and production. They have made their farm-to-table philosophy a way of life and together with their Estate Chef and Master Gardener, the family enjoys nothing more than sharing the bounty of the farm with guests. They are excited to offer extensive visitor programs that provide a range of inviting “live like a local” experiences.
