This has a very ripe, almost muscular core of creamed melon, meringue and lemon gelée, with the frame of chartreuse, quinine and chamomile providing contrast and balance. An absolutely lovely white and an example of how the 2009 vintage, under the right care, elevated some wines to new levels. Brimming with juicy, passion fruit and guava tropical fruit flavors so exotic and enticing that you almost want to smell the wine instead of drink it. The palate continues to surprise with a lively acidity and creamy texture along with a spine of taut minerality running down the middle. There exists some poise and knife-edge balance in its ripeness that perfectly expresses the vintage. Impossible not to enjoy now, yet has the stuffing to lie down easily for the next 10 years.

(80% sauvignon blanc and 20% semillon; 14% alcohol) Straw-yellow with gold highlights. The initially intensely oaky nose slowly reveals mineral and citrus fruit aromas along with rather obvious burnt almond and caramel notes. Then surprisingly fresh and clean in the mouth, with pretty gooseberry and tangerine flavors complicated by vanilla and green fig. The moderately long finish displays a saline edge. This vintage of Haut-Bergey was aged in more new oak than usual (up to 50%, vs. a more usual 30%), and though the wine shows considerable potential, it will need time to bring that oaky veneer into balance.
