jamessuckling.com, September 2013

A white of incredible energy and depth of fruit with a grapefruit, stone and peach character. Some hints of minerals and tropical fruit too. It's full and agile with a great backbone of acidity. A blend of 60% sauvignon...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2012

Smith-Haut-Lafitte hit a home run with their red Pessac-Leognan and came very close to perfection with their dry white Graves. Possibly the best dry white the estate has produced since the proprietors, the Cathiards...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2014

Rich, fat, ripe and very ripe fruits with vanilla, grapefruit, citrus rind and minerality notes. Long, refreshing and concentrated, this is a charmer.

janeanson.com, April 2022

A successful, exuberant vintage that produced rich, dense wines in both colours. There is some evident evolution in the white at this point, with touches of honeysuckle alongside lemon curd, pink grapefruit and saline...

Wine Enthusiast, September 2012

Full in the mouth, this is a rich wine with its yellow fruit and buried acidity. It is laden with wood and ripe fruit, and is dense and cushioned. A nutmeg flavor shows through slowly to add to the exotic, opulent aftertaste.

Wine Spectator, March 2012

This is really gorgeous with creamed Meyer lemon meringue and lime chiffon notes leading the way backed by pure salted butter straw and warm shortbread flavors. Long and rich yet detailed and focused through the finish...

As early as 1365, grapes have been grown on the property now known as Smith-Haut-Lafitte. Originally owned by the noble Bosq family, the estate was purchased in the 18th century by Scotsman George Smith. Its present name was taken from Smith and the Pessac region’s gravel plateau known as Lafitte.

In 1842, Mr. Duffour-Dubergier, mayor of Bordeaux and an enthusiastic winegrower, inherited Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte from his mother and brought the wine up to great growth status. The property changed hands again in 1958 when it was purchased by the Louis Eschenauer Company. After the Eschenaueur period came to an end, a great deal of money has been invested in the estate, particularly on the construction of a superb underground cellar holding over 1,000 barrels.

In 1990, Daniel Cathiard fell in love with the property and joined the list of prestigious owners, firmly intending to further enhance Smith-Haut-Lafitte's tradition of excellence. He combined the most modern winemaking techniques with age-old artisanal methods, including organic compost, small wooden vats, and lees-aging. Famous around the world for its wonderfully elegant red wine and the sophisticated bouquet of its white wine, Smith-Haut-Lafitte undoubtedly deserves the special care that is lavished on it.
