One of the more flamboyant and sumptuous wines of the vintage this inky/purple-colored St.-Julien reveals thrilling levels of opulence richness and aromatic pleasures. A soaring bouquet of creme de cassis charcoal graphite and spring flowers is followed by a super-concentrated wine with silky tannins stunning amounts of glycerin a voluptuous multilayered mouthfeel and nearly 14% natural alcohol. Displaying fabulous definition for such a big plump massive concentrated effort I suspect the tannin levels are high even though they are largely concealed by lavish amounts of fruit glycerin and extract. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040.

An immensely structured wine packed with dark tannins promising aging potential. It is complex powerful layered with new wood and concentration finishing with dark plum fruits and acidity. R.V.

Tightly wound the slightly muted nose reveals notes of oak cedar and cut grass on top of aromas of blackberry and black cherry. The fruit is still tightly wound on the palate but the wine shows silky tannins vibrant acidity and excellent length. All the components are in balance and with a bit of patience this should be outstanding. Give this wine about 5-8 years to really show its stuff.

Black inky core with vibrant alizarin crimson rim. The bouquet is fragrant and gorgeous with ripe red and black fruit fresh cut oak and cedar clove and spice. Lush black cherry leads into a complex mid palate followed by a long fruit-driven finish that picks up a lingering mineral lift and polished tannins. Impeccable balance. Mesmerizing. This is a big powerful wine that somehow manages to be refined and classy at the same time. This second growth is on first growth terms this vintage. Decant for at least 2-4 hours if you plan on sneaking a peak while it's in its youth and pair with a grilled NY strip steak. Otherwise cellar over the next one to four decades.

Classic Saint-Julien aromas of cassis licorice tar minerals and dark chocolate. Lush sweet and powerful with a superb glyceral texture to the dark berry and dark chocolate flavors. Huge wine but not at all heavy. The extremely long echoing finish features utterly noble tannins that saturate the front teeth. Offers a show-stopping combination of sweetness and structure. Built for three decades of life in bottle.

They tend to start to pick later than Barton ends. Very bright purple. Very crystal clear. Plush and inky and polished and sumptuous. Masses of flesh. Seductive and with lots of mass. Polished. 18.5/20

On the nose there’s an explosion of pure fruit from blackberries to currants, and vanilla too. This is still a little baby. Full and dense with chewy tannins. Big and rich, but very balanced. 95+

Solid notes of steeped black currant ganache-coated fig and plum eau de vie pump along in this very dark red but with well-integrated structure. Long and winey through the finish with the grip extending everything nicely...
