From a very stony, limestone-filled half-acre parcel in the higher elevations of this Grand Cru, this has a meatiness that makes it seem more Bâtard than Chevalier at the moment; it's a powerful, musky wine with more buttery bounce than hauteur. After two days of air, it begins to show a floral apple scent, the fruit more apparent and refined. It's a Chevalier with broad shoulders, with the crystalline sweetness of pear confit, the tartness of grapefruit and persimmon. What lasts is a gamey impression and a salty, seashell minerality, youth attributes that will evolve into complexity with age.
