The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes is beginning to really blossom in bottle. It has a reserved, stony, sea cave-scented bouquet that draws you in, though you have the feeling it is holding something back from those willing to cellar this Puligny. The palate is very well balanced with a gentle, spicy entry with notes of bruised apple, pear and a dash of pepper. It finishes it quite Zen-like fashion, but what is lacks in fruite it compensates with tension, so much so that it feels more like a 2010 than a 2009. Minimalist! - Neal Martin
