Best ever from here and one of the best values of the vintage. Try after 2018.

I was mean with my score at first. Tasted blind it felt a little aggressive, but the more it remained in my glass the more I can to appreciate it (one yearns for a decanter and more time in situations such as this.) There is still some oak to be resolved here, but this is well defined, more complex than its peers with blackberry, crushed stone, cedar and raspberry jam. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry. Masculine, harmonious with good concentration on the finish, this is an extremely fine wine.

Gloria has long been one of the most popular wines in America but I do not believe they have ever made better wines than they have over the last decade and the 2009 is one of their finest. While this estate is not a classified growth it certainly performs like one in 2009. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by an expressive flamboyant bouquet of black fruits Christmas spices licorice and roasted Provencal herbs. Fuller-bodied more concentrated and extracted than most vintages with soft tannins its low acidity and a sumptuous plump style remind me of a modern day version of the 1982 (which is fully mature but still in great shape). The 2009 Gloria is a very smart purchase for those looking to maximize their buying power. In fact this may be the value of the vintage. - Robert Parker

A serious young wine crammed with plum cake blackberry preserves warm fig confiture and blueberry reduction flavors all laced with briar and sweet toasty spice notes and backed by a long tarry finish. Has a rustic edge but lots of stuffing. Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2014 through 2025. 20415 cases made.

Smooth open wine the ripest fruit layered with soft tannins. It reveals all the opulent fruit of the year while offering medium-term pleasure. R.V.

Made in the same cellars and same style as Chateau Saint Pierre this is one of the best value wines from St. Julien for the 2009 vintage. Aromas of blackberry and black cherry mingle with notes of mint eucalyptus licorice and a touch of espresso. Firm tannins offer structure to the fruit and thanks to some vibrant acidity all the components are in beautiful balance. This should last 20 years easily while providing immediate drinking pleasure. Bravo!

Label

Chateau Gloria is harvested by hand, with traditional vinification and fermentation in heat-regulated stainless steel vats. The wine matures for 14 months in casks, 40% of them new. Recent vintages have featured jammy fruit, typically prune and black currant, with rich but approachable tannins.

Winery

Chateau Gloria

Chateau Gloria is one-of-a-kind, created by Henri Martin who purchased plots piece-by-piece, but exclusively from crus classified in 1855. The 50 hectare vineyard spans three areas: the middle of Beychevelle, the west of Saint-Julien and, on the north, on the border of Pauillac.

The vines include 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot on Gunzian gravel soil over a layer of clay and sand. Average vine age is 40 years.

Chateau Gloria also has a second wine, Chateau Peymartin, produced using the estate's youngest vines.
