Reviews for 2009 d'Arenberg Little Venice

JH 95
James Halliday - James Halliday, August 2011
Restrained and savoury bouquet showing inky black fruits violets and attractive mocha notes; the palate is fresh and generous relying on a savoury briary note for complexity; long expansive and harmonious to conclude.

Shallow brown earth planted 1998. Blackberry dark spices and pepper mocha. Full bodied and savoury with chocolate and dried herbs. Intensive dried tannic grip a pretty rustic wine and bitter in a positive sort of way... Shallow brown earth planted 1998. Blackberry dark spices and pepper mocha. Like it but a fair old mouthful - not for the faint hearted. Finish is impressive. --Gary Walsh

Wine Spectator - Wine Spectator, May 2012
Focused tight harmonious and complex offering a straight shot of cherry tobacco mineral and spice flavors that keep singing through the long vivid finish. Best from 2014 through 2020. --Harvey Steiman

Wild highly perfumed aromas of dried cherry and dark berries incense and woodsmoke with hints of anise and espresso in the background. A hefty palate-staining shiraz that offers powerful dark fruit flavors that gain sweetness with aeration. Dusty tannins add shape and grip to the long smoky finish. I'd hold onto this one for at least a few more years.
