While very good this classic Condrieu must take a back seat to the 4000-bottle cuvee of 2009 Condrieu Clos Boucher which ranks alongside Guigal's Condrieu La Doriane. The Clos Boucher possesses a light gold color as well as a stunning bouquet of marmalade apricot jam white flowers lychee nuts and honeysuckle. A rare extraordinary minerality gives a laser-like focus to this enormously endowed white wine. It admirably demonstrates why Condrieu can offer such a singular drinking experience.

Green-tinted yellow. Fresh nectarine on the nose with notes of orange peel violet and smoky herbs adding complexity. Fresh nectarine on the nose with notes of orange peel violet and smoky herbs adding complexity. Juicy and plump showing energetic citrus and pit fruit flavors and a strong touch of anise. Minerality builds with air and adds focus to this deeply concentrated but lithe wine which closes on a strong spicy note and with excellent length. -JR

100% viognier. About 600 cases at most are only made in the best vintages. 70% of the juice was fermented in new oak. About 600 cases at most are only made in the best vintages. 70% of the juice was fermented in new oak. This cuvée is a step up in complexity as compared to the "La Galopine" with brighter acidity and more lifted aromas. Subtle talc-like textures lie underneath some concentrated flavors of ripe pears that show creamy textures. Another example of Delas' ability to show richness without going overboard. Drink in the next 6-8 years.

Winery

Delas Freres

Founded in 1835 by Charles Audibert and Phillipe Delas, the celebrated Delas Freres winery grows 30 hectares of vines comprising 10 hectares in Hermitage (including the Domaines des Tourettes estate), 2 hectares in Saint-Joseph, and 18 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage.

In addition to the grapes produced by Delas' own wine growing team, Delas' close relationships with like-minded owner-winegrowers ensure that the company is able to source grapes grown on individual parcels, which reflect their own unique terroir.

Exclusively a family-owned operation for over a century, Delas Freres joined forces with Champagne Deutz in 1977. In 1993, Deutz and Delas Freres were approached by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholder in the Roederer Group. They joined the Roederer Group under whose umbrella Delas' philosophy continues to flourish.
