An intensely floral and equally cool yet notably ripe and far-reaching nose speaks of wild red berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with humus spice earth and pungent undergrowth nuances. There is perhaps even more minerality present on the highly energetic and flat out painfully intense flavors that possess truly formidable size and weight with superb mid-palate concentration. The palate staining finish is explosively long yet as with all of the very finest Burgundies this delivers all of this focused power with seemingly no undue weight indeed if anything this is light on its feet. This mind-blowing effort is a potential monument in the making but it is so massively structured that it will be pointless to open a bottle before 20 years is up.

It is also the least obvious of the 2009 grand crus. This isn't an immediate wine rather it is a Burgundy that challenges all of the senses with sublime understated personality. Time spent with the wine is immensely rewarding as the Chambertin is constantly changing in the glass challenging the taster to keep up with its sheer pedigree. This is all nuance and class. I also tasted the 2010 from barrel and it was beyond profound. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.
