Scents of mint and diverse hedge flowers in the nose of Crochet's 2009 Sancerre Le Chene lead to a palate of impressive brightness invigoration and levity for its vintage. A crystalline saline and chalky sense of minerality as well as diverse floral notes are glimpsed through a luscious pool of lime tangerine musk melon and grapefruit. This broadly palate-coating concentrate finishes with zest and pungency but without its 14.8% alcohol pushing the bitter notes too far to the fore and with only a touch of heat. We'll see how it gets into bottle but I would expect this to give quite a show provided one doesn't cellar it for long and thereby risk its alcohol becoming a more negative factor in the overall flavor equation. If my assessment is correct it would be a shame if Crochet were to wait as long as he usually does before releasing this cuvee. (89-90+) --- David Schildknecht
