jebdunnuck.com, October 2023

Starting a duo of magical vintages, the 2009 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of those wines that always seems to deliver the goods. A normal blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot that hit 13.5% natural alcohol...

Decanter, June 2021

Remarkably fresh and delicate nose yet classic and aromatic and full of spicy and graphite notes with liquorice, blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, and cherry. Very fresh and elegant, the palate is formidable and shows the...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2023

Concentrated, opulent, deep, ripe, sensuous, and mouthcoating, this is a majestic vintage with incredibly, creamy, silky tannins, length, purity, and denseness, with a mouth-filling finish that is close to seamless from...

Such confidence and character on display in this wine, and these were the years when all the work of the new team under Bruno Borie began to seriously come on line. Sculpted and richly spiced, with cloves, aniseed...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2020

Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Ducru-Beaucaillou bursts from the glass with bombastic crème de cassis, black cherry compote and preserved plums notes followed by hints of menthol, hoisin, dusty soil and incense plus...

The Wine Independent, September 2023

The 2009 Ducru-Beaucaillou, 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, is deep garnet in color. It bursts from the glass with bold notes of creme de cassis, boysenberry preserves, black cherry compote, and new leather...

Vinous, July 2022

The 2009 Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fantastic wine. Here it bursts from the glass, perhaps less Pauillac-like than previous bottles, beautifully defined with a smorgasbord of red and black fruit laced with cedar and tobacco...

Wine Enthusiast, August 2010

(WE95-97 points) Barrel sample. Big and powerful, structured, with bitter chocolate and blackberry flavors. The wine is dense, the fruit enormous. But it does manage to keep freshness.

Wine Spectator, March 2013

Features plenty of flash and sizzle, with gorgeous, inviting mocha, espresso and chocolate notes up front, backed by a dense core of plum sauce, cassis, blackberry puree and blueberry reduction accents. Long, showing...

jamessuckling.com, March 2019

This is a rich, powerful, concentrated and well-structured wine, but in comparison to recent vintages (from 2014) this comes off slightly heavy on the mid-palate. However, I love the balance at the ripe and generous...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

The 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou is an exceptional Bordeaux blend that showcases the best of St Julien, Bordeaux. With its deep garnet color, this wine immediately captivates the senses. It opens with a powerful and explosive bouquet of crème de cassis, black cherry compote, and preserved plums. Undertones of menthol, hoisin, and dusty soil add complexity, while fragrant hints of candied violets and baker's chocolate provide a delightful aromatic experience.

On the palate, the 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou is full-bodied, rich, and spicy. It displays a beautifully plush texture that is both opulent and refined. The wine offers a remarkable balance of freshness and intensity, with a long and layered finish that leaves a lasting impression. This wine is truly an absolute powerhouse.

Renowned wine critic Lisa Perrotti-Brown of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded this wine an outstanding score of 98 points. She describes it as a wine bursting with flavor and showcasing a plush texture. Neal Martin of Vinous also lauds this wine, giving it a score of 97 points. He praises its wonderful intensity, focus, and multi-layered finish.

Other esteemed critics have also recognized the excellence of the 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou. James Suckling, a well-respected wine critic, awards this wine a score of 95 points, noting its richness, power, concentration, and well-structured nature. Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast both rate this wine highly, with scores of 96 and 97 points respectively.

Jeb Dunnuck, another prominent wine critic, awards the 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou a perfect score of 100 points. He describes it as pure perfection, with an opulent and hedonistic character. Decanter and TheWineCellarInsider.com also give this wine high scores of 98 and 99 points respectively, praising its power, elegance, and long-lasting finish.

Jane Anson, an esteemed wine critic, describes the 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou as a wine that exudes confidence and character. She notes its beautiful depth of fruit, spiced elements, and signature freshness. Overall, this wine has received widespread acclaim and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Bordeaux in the 2009 vintage.

With its exceptional quality and impressive aging potential, the 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou is a wine that deserves a place in any serious collector's cellar. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further development, this wine promises to deliver a truly remarkable experience.
