It is a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Garnacha aged for 10 months in 300 and 500-liter French oak. Smoked meat game and wild black and blue fruit aromas jump from the glass of this Cote-Rotie look-alike. Plush bordering on opulent this sensual beauty can be enjoyed now and should continue to drink well for another 6-8 years. -Jay Miller

Composed of 85% syrah and 15% grenache José Benavides and Daniel Gómez are really onto something from farming their 27 hectares planted on sand and granite soils with minimal intervention. The medium pale red color betrays the rich invigorating nose of fresh raspberry smoked meat and lively minerality. Supple and rich on the palate the red fruits are joined by blueberry and a touch of earth and this shows staggering depth without being too alcoholic or tannic. But it in no way sacrifices complexity as the mineral component carries this through to the back palate and helps pull the finish well past the minute mark. The 2009 vintage of 'Sotorrondero' is a knockout value yet again. Drink 2011-2016.
