It has one of the finest bouquets among the group of Pauillac with copious blackberry, mint, melted tar and graphite notes, fresh and supremely well focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very well judged acidity. Harmonious with plenty of tobacco and pencil lead infused black fruit towards the persistent finish. Awesome. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. -- Neal Martin collapse

Full, rich, concentrated and decadently fruited in the mouth, the palate has beautifully plush tannins and an herbal lift on the long finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown collapse

The Pichon Baron 2009 is a great wine destined to last for many years. It has a very well defined bouquet with blackberry, creme de cassis and still some vanillary new oak that needs bottle age to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. This is beautifully composed and pure with an unerring symmetry. It is tightly coiled and very precise, yet the finish has enormous length. Outstanding. collapse

The wine is clearly going to sleep now. It is impossible not to enjoy the weight, density, flesh, and opulence, but the nuances are now resting and will sleep for 6-10 years as a guess. Bold, smoky and chocolatey, this is a concentrated and massive wine for the Medoc, the alcohol showing slightly at the bold warm finish. Where is that T-bone steak? Drink or hold.

The finish lets a racy iron note take over. Long and authoritative with gorgeous acidity giving the balance for long-term cellaring. Best from 2013 through 2030. 13000 cases made. -JM collapse

(17.5/20) Scented, alluringly perfumed in fact with nicely balanced fruit and very fine oak. It's all tucked in there for a delicious long life.
