(NM 93-95 points) Tasted from a sample prepared by Romain Taupenot, his parcel in Mazoyeres was slightly affected by the hail that delayed the maturity by a week. It has a fragrant, slightly clayey bouquet with dark broody black fruits and a touch of dried flowers. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with firm structured tannins, very well defined with great precision on the finish. Crisp dark berried fruits with just a touch of liquorice on the aftertaste. Excellent, but more introspective than the Charmes.

Here the nose is actually quite similar to that of the Charmes though it is slightly more deeply pitched. There is superb richness to the round and impressively concentrated big-bodied flavors that are both bigger and firmer with robust and moderately rustic tannins that are in keeping with the broad-scaled, intense and powerful finish. This isn't as refined as the Charmes but it is a picture perfect version of a classic Mazoyères. Well worth considering as this is excellent though note that plenty of patience will be required.

94+ The 2009 Mazoyeres-Chambertin is another reticent wine. This is a decidedly intense, powerful Mazoyeres that needs time to shed its baby fat. The aromatics are expressive and intensely perfumed, but at the moment it is the weight of the year that comes through most. The seductive finish is incredibly inviting. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. - AG

(18/20) Firm crimson. Now this smells like something serious! Cherries and density with some real polish and flesh. Very impressive register of fruit against the tannins. Lovely wine – though perhaps a bit more fluid than the average long-lived grand cru. Long though.
