This is fascinating with dark chocolate and spice character. Violet pepper. Full body, with velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Northern Rhone-ish with Aussie panache. Drink now or hold.

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Oracle Shiraz gives complex notes of creme de cassis, coffee, grilled duck skin and soy over mace, licorice and tree bark. Full bodied and packed with flavor, it offers a solid backbone of crisp acid and firm, rounded tannins in the mouth, going long and spicy in the finish. Though approachable now, it should drink best 2013 to 2020+. 93+ - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Intensely perfumed bouquet of spicy dark berries, cherry-vanilla and cracked pepper. Pliant blackberry and bitter cherry flavors display impressive depth, creaminess and alluring sweetness, with zesty spiciness adding vivacity. Finishes with excellent lift and breadth, leaving black pepper and candied licorice notes behind.

One of the more backwards 2009 Shirazes in these tastings, the Oracle only stubbornly gives up hints of mint, tar and blackberry. It’s full-bodied yet quite drying and austere on the palate, where flavors of mocha, plum, blackberry and cedar dominate. Long and thickly textured on the finish, which bodes well for the cellar. Drink 2015–2025.

Fresh and vibrant, this is juicy with dark berry and black pepper flavors that sail over refined tannins and linger on the open-textured finish. This has intensity, but wields it gently. Drink now through 2019. – HS

Super concentrated from its purple-black color to the opaque red-apple skin and brisk mineral flavors, this is packed with sweet, high-toned spice.
