(95+) Truly brilliant, the 2009 Two Hands Shiraz 'Barney’s Block' Single Vineyard McMurtrie Road possesses gorgeous aromas of sweet blackberry and raspberry fruit, charcoal, spring flowers, and a serious saline and oyster shell line streak on the nose. Perfumed and intense aromatically, the wine is a blockbuster on the palate and shows a full bodied, powerful, and layered texture, superb balance, good acidity, and a brilliant finish that expands in the mouth and showcases ripe, fine grained tannin. While this has a core of sweet fruit, there’s solid structure here as well. I’ll be conservative and say drink over the coming decade, but I think this will be a 15+ year wine.

Deep purple-black in color, the 2009 “Barney’s Block” Shiraz is profoundly scented of warm blackberries and blueberry preserve over nuances of yeast extract, black olives, cloves, bacon fat and cedar. Very full bodied and powerful in the mouth, the palate is packed with primary blackberry and meaty / earthy flavors with ample support from a medium to firm level of grainy tannins and enlivening acid, finishing long with some baking spices coming through. Consider drinking this one 2013 to 2024+. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Exotically perfumed aromas of mulberry, black raspberry, dark chocolate, toasty oak spices and incense. Lush and broad, with palate-coating and surprisingly energetic red and dark berry compote and violet pastille flavors complicated by licorice and allspice. Shows unlikely poise and precision for such a rich wine, and has the balance to age. -Josh Raynolds

Deep colour, and loaded with fragrant black fruits, floral notes, licorice and a whole lot of mocha; the palate is full-bodied and fresh, with focus and energy being maintained from start to finish, with the little prickle of heat in fact working with the fruit on offer.
