Representing a blend of material judged top-quality from all across their Yamhill estate - and tending to favor some of the early Dijon clones - WillaKenzie's 2009 Pinot Noir Pierre Leon is dominated by dark cherry and purple plum piquantly tinged with their pits; undertones of tallow roasted red meat and underbrush lending intriguing depth; and finishes with resonance richer and sweeter if with a bit less energy penetration or saliva inducement than its counterpart from their Dundee Hills vineyard. This handsome Pinot should perform well for 6-8 years. -David Schildknecht

Here the elegant nose features intense floral and spice notes that add breadth to the cool and pure aromas of red pinot fruit. There is the same sophisticated mouth feel here as I found in the Aliette though the flavors possess a bit more size and weight plus a bit more mid-palate concentration as well. The mouth coating finish possesses a dusty character though not quite the verve of the Aliette but still this is worth considering especially if your taste runs to more powerful pinots. ♥ - Comments: Outstanding

Fresh and vivid with tightly focused plum and guava flavors that play against lively acidity and polished tannins. Finishes with zip. Drink now through 2017. -HS
