jamessuckling.com, November 2013

Wonderfully complex nose in this white with ripe lemon, green papaya, lime peel and lots of ripe yellow peach. Full and focused, it offers a beautiful ripe acidity and silky texture on the palate. Long and precise finish...

jebdunnuck.com, October 2023

The 2010 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is drinking brilliantly, with a mature yet still fresh and vibrant style. Crushed citrus, mint, honeyed lime, and mandarin orange zest all emerge from this full-bodied...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, April 2013

Intense, attention seeking notes of lemon, lime, flowers and stone open to a wine with depth, richness and concentration. The wine is long, fresh, plush and polished with plush textures and a mélange of citrus and mineral...

Decanter, November 2016

A stunning Bordeaux blanc with depth and gravitas, this has taken on a bit more weight and texture than the more youthful 2013. Fabulous aromatics lead onto a broad, elegant white peach and pear palate. This has been...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, January 2014

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Chateau Smith Haut-Lafitte Blanc has a comparatively subtle bouquet with peach skin and nectarine scents, nicely defined but perhaps needing a little more vigour...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2013

A stunning wine with hints of pineapple, caramelized citrus, mandarin oranges, smoky figs and hazelnuts, this is a full-bodied, rich, superb white Graves from the Cathiard family. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035. - ...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2013

A rich, ripe and finely balanced wine. Its acidity cuts through the full pear and apricot flavors to give a tight crispness. At this stage, it is all fruit and acidity, but it does have the potential for greatness with a...

Wine Spectator, March 2013

This crackles with thyme and savory notes, offsetting the powerful core of lemon curd, white peach and fennel. The long, pure finish has a stony thread and extra waves of fruit and herb. Drink now through 2019. – JM

As early as 1365, grapes have been grown on the property now known as Smith-Haut-Lafitte. Originally owned by the noble Bosq family, the estate was purchased in the 18th century by Scotsman George Smith. Its present name was taken from Smith and the Pessac region’s gravel plateau known as Lafitte.

In 1842, Mr. Duffour-Dubergier, mayor of Bordeaux and an enthusiastic winegrower, inherited Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte from his mother and brought the wine up to great growth status. The property changed hands again in 1958 when it was purchased by the Louis Eschenauer Company. After the Eschenaueur period came to an end, a great deal of money has been invested in the estate, particularly on the construction of a superb underground cellar holding over 1,000 barrels.

In 1990, Daniel Cathiard fell in love with the property and joined the list of prestigious owners, firmly intending to further enhance Smith-Haut-Lafitte's tradition of excellence. He combined the most modern winemaking techniques with age-old artisanal methods, including organic compost, small wooden vats, and lees-aging. Famous around the world for its wonderfully elegant red wine and the sophisticated bouquet of its white wine, Smith-Haut-Lafitte undoubtedly deserves the special care that is lavished on it.
