Medium to full-bodied and rich, it is capable of lasting 15 or more years. It could turn out to be a sleeper of the vintage.

Planted to 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot on a gravelly rise with deep pebbly soil. Camensac uses 35 to 70% new oak (the rest consisting of barrels that have been used for one single vintage) and the wine spends from 17 to 20 months in barrel. The perfumed nose of crushed flower and black fruit lifts from the glass easily, followed by fresh earth and pulverized rock. Sweet black cherry on entry leads to black plum and broad shouldered tannins match the medium to high acid, for this high-toned modern styled wine. Michel Rolland consults. Tasted twice.

This has a perfumy edge, with warm cherry sauce and black currant fruit laced with tobacco and a light roasted herb note. -J.M.
