James Suckling - jamessuckling.com, January 2013
This is the most structured and powerful DC in a long long time. Full bodied with polished and rich tannins and a long finish. Tasted twice. The rising star of Bordeaux?

It also has beautiful fruit, smooth and opulent, that merges into the complex tannins and brooding, dark structure. It will take many years for this wine to open up.

It is aged for 18 months in 45% new barrels. From a 40 hectare section with 35-year-old vines planted to gravel with some clay. 100% hand harvested and the fruit is sorted three times. 13.5 % alcohol. Aromas of black fruit and violet fill the nose. On the round palate flavors of rich chocolate and blackberry jam flavors emerge leading to a finish filled with spice nice tannins and freshness. This has all the elegance and power that I love from Pessac-Leognan and it should age superbly for 20+ years. Domaine Chevalier has really knocked it out of the park with this one! Stephane Derenoncourt consults. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

From an assemblage of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc the wine shows a deep ruby color. With little effort complex aromas of smoke truffle cassis black cherry earth and oak scents are easy to find. The wine is rich concentrated and offers dark earthy black fruit that ends with a long pure blackberry and cassis filled finish.

This is one of my all-time favorite wines from Domaine de Chevalier, a silky, rather classic Pessac-Leognan with notes of scorched earth, tobacco leaf and black and red currants, but no hard edges. Fragrant, complex aromatics are followed by a savory, expansively flavored wine made from a final blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine hit 13.5% natural alcohol, which must certainly be among the highest they have ever achieved, even eclipsing the 2009. An opulent, precocious style of wine that seems much more developed, complex and delicious than I thought from barrel, this beauty can be drunk in 5-6 years or cellared for 20 or more. - Robert Parker

This is loaded with layers of gorgeous plum sauce linzer torte and blackberry fruit melding beautifully with charcoal spice and anise. The long dark finish has some power in reserve but it's rounded and enticing. -J.M.

Saturated, bright ruby-red. Vibrant aromas of cassis, plum and minerals, plus a hint of hot stones. Then juicy but tight and imploded in the mouth, showing terrific concentration and grip to its flavors of black fruits... Saturated, bright ruby-red. Vibrant aromas of cassis, plum and minerals, plus a hint of hot stones. Then juicy but tight and imploded in the mouth, showing terrific concentration and grip to its flavors of black fruits, minerals and licorice. Very cabernet in its precision and cut. Finishes with a solid spine for two or three decades of positive evolution in bottle. I would not want to touch this until at least 2020. 93+
