As early as 1365, grapes have been grown on the property now known as Smith-Haut-Lafitte. Originally owned by the noble Bosq family, the estate was purchased in the 18th century by Scotsman George Smith. Its present name was taken from Smith and the Pessac region’s gravel plateau known as Lafitte.

In 1842, Mr. Duffour-Dubergier, mayor of Bordeaux and an enthusiastic winegrower, inherited Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte from his mother and brought the wine up to great growth status. The property changed hands again in 1958 when it was purchased by the Louis Eschenauer Company. After the Eschenaueur period came to an end, a great deal of money has been invested in the estate, particularly on the construction of a superb underground cellar holding over 1,000 barrels.

In 1990, Daniel Cathiard fell in love with the property and joined the list of prestigious owners, firmly intending to further enhance Smith-Haut-Lafitte's tradition of excellence. He combined the most modern winemaking techniques with age-old artisanal methods, including organic compost, small wooden vats, and lees-aging. Famous around the world for its wonderfully elegant red wine and the sophisticated bouquet of its white wine, Smith-Haut-Lafitte undoubtedly deserves the special care that is lavished on it.

The style of Smith-Haut-Lafitte red is classical, with a beautiful expression of Gunzian gravel terroir which gives it unique smoky notes. Elegant and structured, the red shows freshness, complexity, balance and richness.

The Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, harvested at full maturity and softly vinified to extract only the silkiest tannins, unveils its full potential after proper aging. The other grape varieties of the vineyard, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, add their own aromas and participate in the harmony of a great Cru Classe de Graves.

Introducing the 2010 Smith-Haut-Lafitte, a Bordeaux Blend that hails from the prestigious region of Bordeaux, France. This wine is a true gem, radiating elegance and sophistication from the moment it is poured into the glass. With a deep, inky dark color, it tantalizes the eye and sets the stage for an extraordinary tasting experience.

On the nose, the 2010 Smith-Haut-Lafitte unveils a mesmerizing bouquet of blue fruit, spice, and vanilla bean. The aromas dance and intertwine, creating a symphony of scents that is both captivating and alluring. As the wine touches the palate, it reveals its true nature—lush, opulent, and intensely flavored. The texture is velvety and supple, caressing the taste buds with every sip.

The critics agree, with Jeff Leve from TheWineCellarInsider.com awarding this wine an impressive score of 97 points. Leve describes it as having a good purity of fruit, elegant silky tannins, and a potential that is clear to see. Cory Gowan from JJ Buckley also raves about this wine, noting its rich, pure palate and ample integrated tannins. Gowan suggests that, although it is still a young wine, it can already be enjoyed for its exceptional quality.

The 2010 Smith-Haut-Lafitte has also caught the attention of renowned publications such as Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, both awarding it scores of 98 and 96, respectively. These ratings are a testament to the wine's complexity, depth, and aging potential.

This Bordeaux Blend is crafted with meticulous care by the esteemed Smith-Haut-Lafitte producer, a family-owned estate located in the Pessac Leognan sub-region of Bordeaux. Their commitment to organic and biodynamic farming practices, as well as their use of horse-drawn ploughing and their own cooperage, exemplify their dedication to producing wines of the highest quality.

In conclusion, the 2010 Smith-Haut-Lafitte is a wine that demands attention and admiration. Its stunning visual appeal, enticing aromas, and impeccably balanced palate make it a true standout in the world of Bordeaux wines. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further maturation, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning oenophile.
