TheWineCellarInsider.com, April 2011

Opaque in color black licorice dark chocolate oak jammy berries and sweet black cherry flavors are coupled with a big blast of concentrated sweet jammy berries. This is the best wine produced by La Vieille Cure since the...

Wine Spectator, March 2013

This takes a modern approach, with a noticeable dose of dark, roasted espresso and chocolate up front, but remains grounded in the appellation's textbook racy chalk and charcoal profile. The core of lush fig, plum and...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2013

Always one of the ripest and most hedonistic of the Fronsacs, this wine again delivers the goods. Dense ruby/purple, with loads of black currant and licorice-infused black raspberry fruit, this wine has stunning density...

Chateau La Vieille Cure is in Fronsac, an AOC on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Wine growing at the chateau dates back to the 17th century. The vines are situated on plateaus and slopes that soak up the sun for generous ripening, with soils predominantly limestone with some chalk and clay.

The property was purchased in 1986 by two American friends and Bordeaux lovers. They replanted part of the vineyard—without touching the very old (over 75 years) vines—and constructed a new winery, equipped with the latest equipment.

Chateau la Vieille Cure holds 74% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. This mix, coupled with the sunny vineyard facing, makes the wines accessible at a young age. While some vintages benefit from waiting 10 or more years, most are best appreciated between 4 and 6 years.
