There is plenty of underlying structure in this deep resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. Mint flowers and sweet red berries are some of the nuances that are woven into the finish. This is far from an easygoing Napa Cabernet. Although delicious today it should drink well for a number of years. Another year or so in bottle should help the elements come together even more fully. The 2010 is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. -Antonio Galloni

Label

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) with Merlot (14%) and Cabernet Franc (1%), Chateau Montelena Cabernet is aged in French and Eastern European oak barrels for 14 months. 16% of the barrels are new.

The wines aim to express the fruit from which they are made and the vintage in which they are grown, with all other elements in balance to complement the fruit. To achieve this goal, Chateau Montelena uses modern crushing, de-stemming and pressing equipment to process the grapes as gently as possible. Temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks allow the wines to ferment slowly and evenly.
