So much dried-lemon and orange-peel character here. Wet leaf, wet earth, stone and lightly smoked meat. Full body, integrated tannins and a savory, tangy finish. Fleshy and yummy. Fabulous deal. Drink or hold on release.

Wine Enthusiast, May 2015

Lovely fragrances of pressed powder, black berries, rose and tilled soil waft from the glass. The firm palate offers wild cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, licorice and savory herb alongside tightly knit but refined tannins...

Wine Spectator, June 2015

Cigar box and leather aromas are balanced by strawberry and cherry notes at the core. There is a vibrant, refreshing quality here, with a long, complex aftertaste. Best from 2019 through 2033. 12,500 cases made. –BS

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2015

Caparzo's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a lush and voluptuous wine with soft cherry aromas at the front of spice, dark chocolate and toasted almond. The wine is more approachable in style with a drinking window that can...

Tenuta Caparzo is a Tuscan wine estate in the Montalcino region known for its signature Brunello di Montalcino ‘Vigna La Casa’. It was founded in the late 1960’s by a group of friends who bought an old ruin with vineyards in Montalcino. The farm estate was renovated, modernized and planted with new vineyards.

In 1998, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who owns the neighboring Altesino, purchased Caparzo and she immediately carried out her objective of combining tradition and innovation with the help of her son Igino and daughter Alessandra.

Caparzo, derived from “Ca’ Pazzo” as shown on some ancient maps, covers an overall surface area of 200 hectares. It includes 90 covered by vineyards, distributed over different hillsides in the borough of Montalcino. The vineyards are at a heights ranging from 720 to 985 feet above sea level. The soils ranges between sandy-clay, shale-clay (marl), shale-renaceous rich in skeleton, and sandy-stony. The exposure of the vineyards, the nature of the lands and the microclimates of the areas give fullness, age-ability and character to the Caparzo wines.

Caparzo produced its first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 1970, when the situation in Montalcino was very different than it is now. At the time there were only 13 wineries in Montalcino, thus Caparzo is one of the historic Brunello producers. The distinguishing characteristic of Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino is clearly the origin of its Sangiovese.

The estate is one of the few in Montalcino that has vineyards in the various geographic areas of the appellation. What might seem to be just a detail is actually quite positive, because the different locations of Caparzo's vineyards allow the estate to draw from most of the different microclimates and terroirs present in Montalcino.

The grapes are carefully selected to lay the foundations for a complex wine that brings together all the characteristics that make Brunello one of the world's most sought after wines.
