Yields were remarkably small (20 hectoliters per hectare) and everything about this wine delivers more for the money than one would expect. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc this opaque purple-colored wine offers a wonderfully perfumed nose of plums Asian spices black currants and blackberries. Deep medium to full-bodied opulent and fleshy this is hedonism at its finest. Moreover it will last for a minimum of 7-8 years. A sleeper of the vintage.

Domaine de l'A owned by renowned consultant Stephane Derenoncourt and Christine Derenoncourt is produced from a blend of 70% Merlot 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon biodynamically farmed vineyards planted in clay and limestone soils. Deeply colored intense aromas of licorice blackberry espresso bean and earth meld with sumptuous textures round tannins and a long fresh ripe dark plum fennel and smoky finish.

Aged for 16 months in 40% new barrels and 60% one-wine-old barrels. High-toned currant and mineralized blueberry emerge on the nose. Sexy and generous out of the gate a note of spice comes to the forefront in the mouth and showcases the bright dark fruit while solid acid-to-tannin balance creates a nice dance with the oak. Modern forward style from entry to finish ideal to enjoy 2014-2018. This is Stéphane and Christine Derenoncourt's own property. Tasted twice.
