jamessuckling.com, November 2013

A white with a phenomenal density and richness with creme brulee, apple pie and pear tart character. It's so agile and balanced. Full body, with tangy fruit and a long finish. Crazy intensity and style to this...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, April 2011

An explosion of lemon guava grapefruit lime and fresh picked flowers poured over wet rocks make up the perfume. Thick rich incredibly concentrated and intense this dense wine has the perfect amount of acidity to feel...

Decanter, May 2023

Tasting younger than its 12 years in bottle, this vintage exudes superior opulence to the 2017, but is also tauter. Aeration yields pristine notes of quince, pear, apricot, lime and white pepper, so you experience exotic...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2013

This is a great wine with its swathes of ripe fruit allied to a very structured character. It is concentrated with complex flavors that bring in wood, tropical fruits, apricots and a dense texture. Combined, these...

janeanson.com, June 2022

The second year running that a Domaine de Chevalier white has featured in my wines of the year (last year it was the 2014), but it is just such a consistently brilliant choice if you are looking for a white Bordeaux that...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2013

(94+ points) A backward style of wine with notes of honeyed pears, subtle citrus, candle wax, orange zest and lemon butter, this medium to full-bodied, rich wine has terrific acidity and a long, long finish. Anticipated...

Wine Spectator, March 2013

Very pure, lacking the obvious punch of the vintage, with a floral note leading the way for a core of verbena, yellow apple, melon rind and green plum notes. The long, stone-tinged finish features finely beaded acidity...

Domaine de Chevalier of the Pessac-Leognan appellation is classified as a Grand Cru Classe de Graves. The property belonged to the Ricard family from 1865 until it was purchased by its current owners, the Bernard family, in 1983. It is one of a very few Bordeaux estates to have kept its “domaine” title instead of using the the more popular “chateau” designation.

The estate covers a hundred hectares, of which 45 are under vine: 40 for the property’s red wines, and 5 for its whites. The vineyards are planted with 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot for the red wines, and 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon for the white wines. Soils are dark sand and fine white gravel.

Domaine de Chevalier has been run since acquisition by Olivier Bernard, who perpetuates that spirit of balance and the constant drive for perfection which have been the hallmark of their outstanding wines. The flagship red belongs to the elite of the great classified growths of Bordeaux, while the white is recognized as one of the world’s finest dry wines. The domaine also produces red and white second wines under the Esprit de Chevalier label, which are made from the estate’s young vines.
