Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2020

Decanter, June 2021

Compared to the 2009, the Ducru-Beaucaillou 2010 is less profound and powerful, but it has a more lively and fresher bouquet with cedar, dark berries, tar, cherry, and spicy aromas. On the palate, it is full-bodied, deep...

Concentrated, deep, long, energetic, complex, full-bodied, long, and intense. The fruits are ripe, sweet and fleshly, long and intense with only a touch of oak waiting to resolve. The wine offers depth of flavor...

(96+ points) The 2010 Ducru-Beaucaillou, picked 29 September to 14 October, was matured in 100% new oak for 18 months. This is more backward, sultry compared to the 2009, but there is a payload of black fruit laced with...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

The 2010 Ducru Beaucaillou is a remarkable Bordeaux blend from the renowned St Julien region in France. This red wine showcases the exceptional quality and craftsmanship that the Ducru Beaucaillou estate is known for. With a deep garnet color, this wine is visually captivating and promises a sensory experience like no other.

On the nose, the wine opens with intense aromas of blackberry, briary, and tobacco. These expressive scents are complemented by a touch of Pauillac mint, which adds a refreshing element to the bouquet. As the wine breathes, additional layers of complexity unfold, revealing the meticulous attention to detail in its creation.

The palate of the 2010 Ducru Beaucaillou is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, offering a vibrant and well-balanced structure. It showcases lovely focus and class, epitomizing the elegance of a beautifully crafted Saint Julien wine. The tannins are lush and well-integrated, providing the wine with tremendous length and grip. This wine lingers on the palate, leaving a lasting impression that showcases its potential for aging.

The 2010 vintage of Ducru Beaucaillou has received high praise from wine critics and experts. Neal Martin's Wine Journal awarded it an outstanding score of 97, describing it as a classic Bordeaux with style and panache. James Suckling, another renowned wine critic, gave it a perfect score of 100, stating that it is a fabulous wine that every Bordeaux lover should have in their collection.

With its exceptional quality and incredible aging potential, the 2010 Ducru Beaucaillou is a wine that demands attention. It is a true testament to the artistry and skill of the Ducru Beaucaillou estate, and it is destined to become a prized possession for wine enthusiasts and collectors alike.
