Chapoutier is one of the oldest wine producers in the Rhone Valley with a history that dates back to 1808. For the last two hundred years, the estate has been producing some of the greatest wines in the Rhone Valley. Quality improved and Chapoutier gained international recognition under Michel Chapoutier’s leadership. This massive negociant and winery produces single-vineyard expressions and classic wines from a range of appellations in the north and south of the valley. Today, their range also includes wines from some Roussillon appellations as well as projects in Portugal and Australia.
In 1997, true to his pioneering spirit, Michel Chapoutier set out to explore the terroirs of the oldest continent, Australia, where he bought land and joined forces with major winemaking families.
An encounter with a brilliant and passionate winemaker, Rick Kintzbrunner, and his nephew Peter Graham, led to a new joint venture with the iconic Giaconda Estate in Beechworth. Since 2007, they have been playing on their complementary know-how and experience to produce a racy Shiraz on the specific granite soil of Beechworth in the foothills of the Victorian Alps.
This new Shiraz wine known as "Ergo Sum" is a project at the old Nantua vineyard site less than two miles from Giaconda.
