Sourced from 50-year-old vineyards near Chianti Classico’s southern edge, this riserva is made entirely of sangiovese, aged for 12 months in Slavonian casks and used French oak barrels. Its intense aromas of Maraschino cherries, herbs and spices lead into flavors of spicy black fruit, earthy mushrooms and high-toned herbs, the firm but fine-grained tannins and nervy acidity centering the wine. A fine example of traditional Chianti Classico Riserva, this is pleasurable now but will be even better with a few more years in bottle.
