Feudi di San Gregorio is the work of two Irpinian families, Capaldo and Ercolino, who founded the estate in 1986. It lies in the tiny village of Sorbo Serpico in the province of Avellino and is renowned for its focus on innovation, commitment to quality, and dedication to the restoration of historic grapes that reflect the heritage of local viticulture.

The estate offers a wide range of red, white, and sparkling wines. The fruit of their first vintage was made into Nobellum, followed by Fiano de Avellino and Greco di Tulfo in 1992. After two years, they added Taurasi made with Aglianico grapes to immediate success both in the marketplace and with critics.

What makes their wines unique are their extraordinary vineyards and the richness of their terroir: calcareous and volcanic soils create the ideal conditions for viticulture.

From a beginning of about 30 hectares, the estate now has over 300 hectares today. The original vineyards in the zone of Sorbo Serpico are joined by the vineyards of Tufo, Taurasi and Santa Paolina, perched on hills ranging from 1,150 to 2,300 feet. Soils include both calcareous and volcanic.

Taurasi Riserva originates from a single vineyard symbolic of Feudi di San Gregorio, the Piano di Montevergine. Made from Aglianico grapes, the wine ferments and macerates in stainless steel tanks for about 3 weeks and is then matured for 18-24 months in French barriques and 50 hl barrels of medium toast, then for 24 months in bottle.

This wine has a lovely ruby red color, notes of blackberry, plum, sour black cherry, balsamic and spices, and a soft, mineral and balanced palate with elegant tannins and a persistent finish.

Feudi di San Gregorio was founded in 1986 and quickly became one of Campania's leading wineries with a focus on wines from local varieties. Made entirely with Aglianico, one of Campania's most popular red varietals, the grapes for this cuvee are a blend of 15-20 year old vines with old vines ranging from 70-80 years of age. Grown at 1200 feet above sea level on old, volcanic soils, the altitude allows for refreshing acidity to balance the ripeness coming from the warm temperatures of Southern Italy. Aged for 24 months in new French oak, this wine is held in bottle for another 2 years before release. This is a full-bodied red that will benefit from a few more years in the cellar yet provide tasty drinking for those who prefer a robust style.
