Wine Spectator - Wine Spectator, March 2011
Round bright and pure with silky-textured plum cassis and blackberry fruit and a long iron-tinged finish. The grip really struts its stuff on the finish with the fruit showing excellent persistence. -J.M.

A blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon 33% Merlot 13% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot the 2010 achieved 14% natural alcohol. It exhibits a dense purple color followed by notes of roasted herbs licorice fruitcake and black currants. Medium to full-bodied and rich with moderate tannins as well as the distinctive earthy character that often comes from St.-Estephe this broad savory effort should drink well for 15+ years.

I like the juicy and spicy character in this wine with currants and berries. Full and refined with lovely tannins. I want to drink it already.

Currently aging in 30% new barrels and 70% one-wine-old. This is a 32-hectare vineyard whose average age is 36 years. The vineyards are located between Cos d'Estournel and Montrose facing east over the Gironde River estuary on soils that are a mix of deep gravel and clay. Harvest occurred between Oct. 4th and Oct. 18th. Alcohol comes in at 14%. A floral nose offers spring flowers blackberry fresh pavement and crushed pebbles. With good concentration of blackberry and boysenberry the wine is pleasantly light on its feet with seamless expansion of fruit in the mid-palate. Tannins are present yet well-manicured with small grains of tight precision pushing the ripe fruit to a lingering finish. A nice St. Estephe sleeper. Michel Rolland consults.
