Vedeau's 2010 Gigondas Cotes Jugunda was scheduled to be bottled shortly after my visit. Produced from 60-year-old vines (grown in a 5-acre parcel that is essentially decomposed limestone over a bed of red clay) it is a final blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah primarily aged in tank with a small quantity spending time in small barrels. Revealing exceptional potential it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as copious notes of mulberries blueberries black currants licorice flowers and damp forest floor. Full-bodied pure and filled with personality it should evolve effortlessly for 10-12 years. -Robert Parker
