Attractively ripe, this second wine from Château Léoville las Cases is initially fruity. The structure comes through only slowly to reveal itself. The wine is ripe yet shot through with acidity. Likely to develop quickly.

(90-91 points) The second wine of Las Cases shows mineral violet and berry character. Full and silky with a long finish. I like the balance.

Sleek and well-rendered, this features an iron note that runs from start to finish, along with ganache, charcoal, pastis and crushed plum and blackberry fruit. Not as dense as the top examples, but offers textbook typicity, solid drive and a long finish. Best from 2014 through 2024. 8,333 cases made. — JM

Forest floor, leaves, cedar, cassis and fresh cherry notes work well with the polished sweet, mélange of cherries and wild strawberry that washes over your palate. You can drink this now, or give it a few years of age... On the nose there is dark purple fruit with a touch of smoke and minerality. As for the palate the style is very straightforward though there seems to be mostly fruit without much structure to support it. In fact for a vintage highlighted by Left Bank wines with prominent tannins there is a noted lack of tannins and density leading to a somewhat dry abrupt finish. This wine misses the mark.
