The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes is a blend of 85% Grenache and the rest equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre from the same parcels as the 2011. The wine is aged primarily in foudres with small percentages of the Syrah and Mourvedre kept in new 600-liter demi-muids. A spectacular effort it displays a confit of camphor blueberries blackberries black raspberries lavender and other floral notes. This full-bodied massive Chateauneuf du Pape is remarkably light on its feet despite what must be 15+% alcohol. Incredibly pure and remarkably intense this is a tour de force from Nicolas Boiron. It should drink well for two decades.

(80% grenache and 10% each of mourvedre and syrah fermented with whole clusters; the grenache was raised in old foudres and the mourvedre and syrah were raised in demi-muids): Glass-staining ruby. Heady aromas of red berry preserves incense lavender and spicecake. Sappy raspberry and cherry flavors are complicated by suggestions of cinnamon and anise with nervy minerality adding lift and spine. A suave and refined Chateauneuf with very good finishing punch vivacity and lingering spiciness.

The 2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chantemerle is up there with the best of this cuvee that I've tasted. The 2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chantemerle is up there with the best of this cuvee that I've tasted. A blend of 80% Grenache and the balance Syrah and Mourvèdre that's all vinified very traditionally and aged in tank foudre and demi-muid. it boasts pure fresh aromas of blacker styled fruits flowers violets and assorted wild herbs on the nose. this has a mouth filling mid-palate to go with superb purity of fruit notable balance and copious quantities of ripe tannin. I like the depth of fruit here as well as the ripe structure. It should be approachable after a handful of years in bottle and have upwards of 12-15 years of longevity.
