This was phenomenal from barrel and remains so. The aromas are spellbinding. It smells like a bouquet of pink roses and then goes to currants, berries and citrus. Full body, with wonderfully refined tannins. It starts...

The remarkable thing about the tannins of this 2010 Château Margaux is that they feel more plush and velvety than the 2nd wine at this stage - almost more ready to drink. A brilliant wine, dense yet light on its feet...

Reminding me slightly of the 1996 (and maybe the 2019) with its purity and precision, the 2010 Château Margaux offers a classic bouquet of red and black currants, green tobacco, sandalwood, spring flowers, and lead pencil...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2013

A great wine that is just starting out. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend gives the structured, black currant character. Dark chocolate and layers of wood are forward, revealing how young the wine is...

The 2010 Château Margaux continues to deliver the goods, but like the 2005, it is a wine that demands patience. Backward on the nose, this vintage offers black fruit, crushed violet petals and mint, graphite and cedar...

Chateau Margaux is a famous wine estate in the Medoc region, which along with Lafite, Latour and Haut Brion, was rated a First Growth in the original 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It covers 262 hectares, of which 82 hectares are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and 12 hectares to Sauvignon Blanc.

In the 12th century, the property was called “La Mothe de Margaux” (the Margaux mound) and by the 16th century, wine was being produced at the estate. In 1705, the London Gazette advertised the first auction of 230 barrels of “Margose” and the 1771 vintage was the first “claret” to appear in a Christie’s catalogue. Indeed one of America’s Founding Fathers and vintner in his own right, Thomas Jefferson, visited this great estate in the late 18th century and declared it to be a vineyard of “first quality”. When Bertrand Douat, Marquis de la Colonilla, acquired the estate, he built the chateau that is often nicknamed the “Versailles of the Medoc”, a rare example of the neo-palladian style in France.

Andre Mentzelopoulos purchased the property in 1977, investing heavily in the estate and a program of improvements. Since his death in 1980, the property has been run by his daughter Corinne who continued his work in restoring the chateau to its former glory.

Since the 17th Century, the grand vin of Chateau Margaux has been recognized as one of the greatest wines in the entire world. It owes its unique qualities to the genius of its terroir as well as to the passionate work of a succession of generations. It’s a remarkable wine that comes from a combination of characteristics that are only rarely found: finesse, elegance, complexity, density, intensity, length and freshness. Although its tannic concentration may be exceptional, it’s rare to detect astringency.

The great vintages are distinguished by their formidable ability to move us, while the lesser vintages give pleasure to wine enthusiasts. Chateau Margaux has an extraordinary ability to evolve with age, developing finesse, aromatic aromatic complexity, and a remarkable presence on the palate.

The 2010 Chateau Margaux is a truly exceptional Bordeaux Blend that showcases the best of what the Margaux region in France has to offer. With a deep garnet color that catches the eye, this wine is a visual representation of elegance and sophistication.

On the nose, the 2010 Chateau Margaux offers an array of enticing aromas. Minted blackcurrants, new leather, and Black Forest cake dominate the initial impression, while nuances of sautéed herbs, tar, underbrush, and wild fungi add complexity and intrigue. A waft of cedar completes the aromatic profile, creating a multi-layered experience.

The palate of this wine is a testament to its rock-solid structure and bold freshness. Firm, grainy tannins provide a sturdy foundation for the taut, muscular fruit. The flavors of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry take center stage, accompanied by notes of chocolate, exotic Asian spice, and vanilla. The purity and elegance of this wine are truly remarkable, especially considering its concentration and power.

Critics have been unanimous in their praise for the 2010 Chateau Margaux. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it an impressive 98+ points, highlighting its long and earthy finish. James Suckling, another renowned wine critic, bestowed a perfect score of 100, describing it as "phenomenal" and praising its refined tannins and beautiful texture.

Wine Enthusiast also recognized the aging potential of this wine, suggesting that it will continue to evolve and improve over many years. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend contributes to its structured, black currant character, while layers of dark chocolate and wood add complexity.

In conclusion, the 2010 Chateau Margaux is a wine that demands patience but rewards those who wait. It is a wine of exceptional quality and elegance, with a long and promising future ahead. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for several more years, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur.
