Reviews for 2010 Melville Pinot Noir Estate Santa Rita Hills

WS 92
Wine Spectator - Wine Spectator, September 2012
Tight and fresh with vivid wild berry and raspberry character that's pure and spicy with a stemmy edge yet it works well as the fruit density and tannins fold together in a pleasing way. Drink now through 2022. -JL

Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of raspberry cherry and licorice with a floral quality building with air. Dense and chewy in texture showing sappy red and dark berry flavors and complicating notes of bitter chocolate and gunpowder tea. Silky tannins give gentle grip to the long sweet expansive finish. This wine will benefit greatly from decanting.

Rich and ripe in berry jam and spice flavors this Pinot is enjoyable now for its silky texture and bright acidity. At the same time it should develop bottle notes over the next six years.- S.H.

A notably floral nose also displays notes of red cherry raspberry and subtle spice nuances. There is excellent phenolic maturity to the lush round and generous middle weight flavors that possess a beguilingly silky mouth feel. While there is a touch of warmth on the finish the overall impression is one of a well-balanced effort that is sufficiently firm to suggest 6 to 8 years of upside development potential. Good value and worth a look.

Sweet aromas of bing cherry and raspberry mix with notes of wildflowers mint and a touch of cinnamon. Silky and supple this full-bodied pinot nonetheless shows bright acidity keeping everything vibrant straight through a lingering finish flush with bright red fruit. With smooth tannins this is very approachable now and should impress for another 3-5 years.
