TheWineCellarInsider.com, July 2014

What a stunner, with its fat, juicy, ripe fruit laden personality, the wine is concentrated with layers of black and white cherry, kirsch, dark chocolate, caramel, fennel and earthy sensations. Young, as you would expect...

Decanter, February 2019

If they had not increased the Merlot to 40% of the blend in this moderate to cool vintage, they wouldn't have found the balance between firm bones from the Cabernet Sauvignon, and fleshy meat. The Merlot was harvested...

jamessuckling.com, November 2013

A wine with a wonderful depth of berry, chocolate and hazelnut character. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and a round, delicious finish. Fruit-forward and exuberant: more in-your-face fruit to this wine than in many past...

Wine Spectator, September 2013

A muscular, impenetrable red, with tightly wound tannins guiding the black cherry, plum, herb, soy and oak spice flavors. Monolithic today, this needs time to find equilibrium. Best from 2016 through 2032. 2,200 cases...

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is a Bolgheri estate which lies in the heart of Tuscany's coastal region, Maremma, also home to Sassicaia. The estate is one of the icon wineries of Italy, producing some of the finest Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc in Tuscany, grown in the alluvial, volcanic, and marine-based soils which comprise the region’s terroir.

Founded by Marchese Lodovico Antinori in 1981, Ornellaia’s first vineyard plantings were in 1982 and the new winery started operations with the 1985 vintage. Robert Mondavi and Marchesi de' Frescobaldi became co-owners of the estate in 2002, but since 2005, the estate has been exclusively owned by Marchesi de' Frescobaldi.

Grapes which are not designated for the winery’s flagship Bordeaux-styled release Ornellaia, one of the first Super Tuscans, are "declassified" to the production of Le Serre Nuove, which usually has more Merlot, and sees less oak influence. The winery produces several other labels, including Le Volte, a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a Sauvignon Blanc, Poggio alla Gazze, and Ornus, a sweet, late harvest wine from Petit Manseng.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia also owns the Masseto winery and estate, which produces an equally world-renowned and lauded single-vineyard Merlot.

The desire to nurture the estate’s exceptional qualities has shaped Ornellaia’s philosophy since the beginning. The flagship wine Ornellaia is one of the first and finest Super Tuscans, a cuvee of Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The 2010 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia is a truly exceptional red wine that showcases the best of Tuscany. This wine is a proprietary blend, carefully crafted to create a symphony of flavors and aromas that will captivate even the most discerning wine connoisseurs.

In the glass, the wine exhibits a deep and alluring red color, hinting at the intensity and complexity that awaits. On the nose, it reveals a wonderful depth of berry, chocolate, and hazelnut character. These aromas are perfectly balanced and invite you to delve deeper into the glass.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with velvety tannins that caress the tongue. It is fruit-forward and exuberant, showcasing more in-your-face fruit than in many past vintages. The flavors of ripe berries, dark chocolate, and roasted hazelnuts are complemented by a touch of spice and a hint of espresso. The finish is round, delicious, and satisfying, leaving a lasting impression.

Not only does this wine deliver on taste, but it also comes in a special bottle that commemorates the 25th anniversary of its release. This attention to detail is a testament to the commitment and passion of the producer, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia.

Renowned wine experts have praised the 2010 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia. James Suckling awarded it an impressive score of 95, noting its fruit-forward and exuberant nature. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a staggering 97+ points, highlighting its seamless integration of flavors and elegant balance. Wine Spectator described it as a muscular and impenetrable red, while Wine Enthusiast awarded it a score of 97, noting its intense flavors and aging potential. Decanter also gave it a score of 97, highlighting the balance between firm structure and fleshy fruit.
