Green’s 2010 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard Old Vine reflects around 25% ungrafted (or as they tend to say in Oregon “own-rooted”) vines in a spot whose soil Green is both a bit thinner and more pebble-laced than in other parts of the estate, traits that might help explain why in here experience this block always has an entirely distinct personality. Sour cherry and red currant laced with salt, alkali, and lemon zest serve for a bright vivacious and penetrating performance by this lean yet polished Pinot. The resonance and sheer length here are impressive, and over the next decade or so I suspect we’ll witness enhanced complexity. - David Schildknecht
